Kurseong is a city situated in the Darjeeling district in the northern part of West Bengal. Elevated at an of about 4864 ft, the weather in Kurseong remains pleasant throughout the year.

The city of Darjeeling is just 32 km from Kurseong. Kurseong is known as “The land of white orchards,” and living up to its name Kurseong is house to many orchid gardens. Along with this, Kurseong is famous for its tea plantations and forests, which remain green and healthy throughout the year.

The colossal Kanchenjunga, India’s highest mountain peak, can also be spotted from the upper parts of Kurseong on clear days. Kurseong has an exquisitely beautiful landscape with the beautiful Teesta and Mahananda rivers flowing through the mountains down to the valley. However, the major attraction of this place has to be the toy train. The toy train runs alongside the road, whistling, and grinding through tunnels and bridges which capture the mesmerising essence of this place. Kurseong is considered to have a very spiritual and calming vibe. This is further justified by the fact that Nobel Laureate and poet – The great Rabindranath Tagore wrote a lot of his poems in Kurseong. Not only this, Sister Nivedita, the great disciple of Swami Vivekananda, also resided here.

Another very famous attraction in Kurseong is Salamander Lake. It is a must-go place for all animal enthusiasts, as it houses one of the rarest salamanders that are under threat of extinction. Owing to its beautiful setup, Kurseong is a must-visit for adventure seekers. Adventurers from all over the world visit Kurseong every year to wander, trek, and hike in the Cryptomeria Japonica Forest, which is studded with beautiful pieces of flora. Off late, one can also enjoy white water rafting in Kurseong which was started after the white water rafting in other hill stations like Manali, Rishikesh, Darjeeling gained popularity. The Teesta river, usually silent, does become a bit fiery in some parts, giving rise to a series of breathtaking rapids which are sure to pump the adrenaline of all adventure seekers. Kurseong is a travellers paradise, and if you want to escape the city lights and noise, one must visit Kurseong to simply embrace nature. The sunset at Kurseong is a beautiful amalgamation of the most amazing looking colours in the sky.

This small hill station is an excellent alternative for tourists looking for a more peaceful and calm destination.

The nearest airport to the town of Kalimpong is the Bagdogra airport. It is located at a distance of 40 km from the Kalimpong town. This airport is well networked with significant airports like Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati. From the airport, the usual route is via Matigara and Rohini and takes just over an hour.
